Wix offers 900+ free designer templates, all deeply customizable. The right template doubles your building speed; the wrong one fights you at every step. This guide helps you choose once and choose well.
Are All Templates Free?
Yes — every template in the official library is free on any plan. Paid premium templates from third parties exist but are rare.
Choosing by Industry
Business / Consulting
Browse "Business". Check for a clean hero section, service and case-study blocks, and a prominent contact form.
Photography / Design
Browse "Portfolio". Judge the gallery components — fullscreen sliders, masonry grids and smooth lightboxes.
Restaurants
Browse "Restaurants & Food" — built-in menus, table reservations and delivery links mean minimal rework.
Online Stores
Browse "Online Store". Make sure product grids and product pages suit your category (fashion needs big imagery; electronics need spec tables).
Blogs
Browse "Blog". Look at article cards, category navigation and where the subscribe box sits.
Events / Landing Pages
Browse "Landing Pages" — single-page structure, countdowns and signup forms are the essentials.
4 Golden Rules
- Judge structure, not colors. Colors, fonts and images are all replaceable; section layout determines your workload.
- Always preview mobile. Toggle the phone view in the template preview — over half your visitors will be on phones.
- Prefer built-in features. If you need bookings, menus or memberships, templates that include those components save real time.
- No switching after publish. Wix's most important rule — a wrong choice means rebuilding. Confirm before going live.
Picked the Wrong One?
Before publishing, you can switch templates in the editor (with content-migration caveats). After publishing, rebuilding is the only path. So once more: spending 30 minutes previewing templates is the best time investment you'll make.
